The Tulip table is part of the well-known collection designed by Eero Saarinen, the Finnish-born American architect and designer, for Knoll in 1957. Saarinen intended to discard conventional table and chair legs, replacing them with modern plastic ones, which had been essential to his design focus for some time.

The Tulip table and coffee table feature an aluminium base covered with fibreglass-reinforced plastic, available in white or black. A choice of satin or lacquered white or black laminate is available for the top, or the option of natural oak wood or one of the many types of marble: these range from the light shades of Calacatta, Arabescato and Statuarietto marble to the colourful hues of Verde Alpi, Nero Marquina, Rosso Rubino, Brown Emperador or Noir Sahara. 
All marble surfaces are treated with a transparent, stain-resistant and protective polyester finish.
